Programs & Services
School-Based Counseling

This program establishes and maintains mental health services in elementary schools, including recruitment, training, and supervision of counseling interns, as well as working collaboratively with schools to provide an effective program. Referrals for the services come from teachers, parents, administrators, and self-referrals with permission from parents, and outside agencies. In addition, this program provides training to educators and administrators on ways to promote social, emotional, and community development within the classroom and within the school community.
Young Leaders Program

The Young Leaders Program is a facilitated eight-week, informal and mutually supportive peer group, designed to facilitate youth's individuation, thinking, voice, talent, socialization, personal empowerment, and leadership skills. In this process, an inner resource is built that participants can capitalize on in a multitude of situations for the rest of their lives.
Filial Therapy Program

"Our program is proven to improve behavior, strengthen family relationships and
increase communication"
The Filial Therapy Program helps parents and their children together by enhancing relationships and resolve problems through the use of play, the “language of children.” Parents are trained to conduct a special kind of play session with their child in a one-to-one format and subsequently supervised by the therapist. During the play session, parents learn to follow the child’s lead, to respond empathically, provide structure and to set clear and enforceable limits. The parent and the therapist work together to understand the play and the themes and the relationship to the problems the child is having. In the process the family is strengthened, problems are resolved and appropriate discipline replaces abusive punishment.

This allows the children to learn how to express themselves artistically in a positive environment while also learning life and social skills. Mer also teaches them to listen to others and create music and art with other children.
